Trend Descriptions Spring/Summer 2014
BEAT THE STREET
Contemporary, Street Art, New York, Skateboard, Graphics, Hip-Hop Culture, Playful, Hats & Hoodies
Skating through the city’s streets and urban spaces, the kids from Beat the Street play and dance their way through life. The noise of the city, its hectic bustle and its raw graffiti-covered concrete walls form the backdrop for this urban fashion trend. Here, nothing is understated, the gestures are large, and the inspiration comes from contemporary hip-hop culture with its caps, hoodies, sneakers and colourful graphic prints.
Sun, Sailing, Leisure, Sebago, 1980’s, Tennis, Croisette & Polo
When the sun hits the palm trees in Cannes the film capital in southern France, few free treats can beat a stroll down ‘la Croisette’. The Cannes’ ’86 style draws on the 1980s and their pastel-coloured youth culture with bouncy off-centre pony tails, tennis and yachting references, deck shoes and lots of candy colours and pastels. Drape a sweater over your shoulders and hop on the back of a scooter.
COWBOYS AND FLORALS
Soft, Whites & Lights, Casual, Country life, Loose, Romantic, Patterns & Botanica
Cowboys and florals is straight out of the opening scenes for the American family series Little House on the Prairie, where the children in the Ingalls family run laughing down a flower-covered hill. The romantic children’s life in the country with lots of outdoor play in nature is the main source of inspiration behind this trend. The backbone is hardwearing denim, complemented with botanical and floral prints, white, nostalgic lace and muted pastels.
Professor, Individual, Uniform, Jackets. Shirt, Campus, Books & Blazers
No more ‘too cool for school’. The kids of the Academica trend absorb knowledge and take pride in learning. In Academica, 1950s chequered shirts and short pleated skirts a la the Harry Potter school uniforms mix with classic college style with all American baseball jackets, neatly combed hair and knee-high stockings in penny loafers.
