Playboy Footwear launches iconic menswear shoes for women
The English designed menswear crepe sole shoes, The Original Playboy, are being launched for women.
The iconic Original Playboy shoes with the characteristic crepe soles are known the world over for its classic and timeless English design. Perhaps also for the
legends who have worn the shoes, like actor and style icon Steve McQueen who helped immortalize the look both on and off screen in the 50s and 60s. The famous Hollywood connection is probably also a contributing factor to the brand being perceived as the epitome of masculine and classic Ivy League aesthetics. What few people know is, the legendary shoes were also made for women back in the 50’s as a response to the ‘menswear for women’ demand, a movement we see in today’s fashion as well.
“The English designed Original Playboys have been go-to classics for men since the beginning in 1936. However, in recent years we have experienced more and more inquiries about the shoes for women. With the increasing interest in general for ‘menswear for women,’ we decided the timing was right for a collection made especially for women”, says owner Charlotte Fabian.
The women’s collection consists of the iconic menswear shoe style made with plain and brogue suede upper, a chukka buckle boot based on a vintage menswear style and a completely new style that’s been added, the classic Chelsea boot, made on the high crepe sole as well. The style of the women’s collection is the same well-known, classic and timeless simplicity that characterizes the menswear line. The materials used are exactly the same with uppers in toned down colours in the finest hunting suede, full calf leather lining and 100% natural plantation crepe for the characteristic soles. The only difference is the last for women is made smaller and slightly slimmer to fit women’s feet. The women’s collection was presented at last edition of CIFF and is expected in stores for the coming fall season.
