Q&A with Maria Black
Not compromising is one of your characteristics how do you translate this into your collections?
Not compromising, the outcome being jewelry with a simplistic, yet exhilarating approach. The collections exude quiet, unpretentious personality.
You are following your feelings and create collections that make people think. How do you approach your consumers and how do you dialogue with them?
I aim to create beautiful, androgynous pieces with a wide appeal and a liberating free approach to personal attire. And that is a key concept in my view of the world: It is all about creating your own path, to have the confidence to follow your gut and to put your personal mark of the life you live. I approach the consumers by letting every piece tell their own story.
BOF mentioned you some weeks ago in an article speaking about the rise of Demi-Fine Jewellery: which are the Key elements that can better describe you as Demi-fine jewellerer?
Demi-fine jewellery blurs the lines between fine jewellery and costume jewellery. Uniqueness, personalisation and the ability to mix and match are key to the rise of the category. The refined pieces are for anyone who favors everyday jewellery with an edge and who love to mix and match. The demi-fine customer is looking to accessorise and that is where we meet them.
Why did you choose to be present at CIFF for the Fall/Winter fair?
We enjoy being a part of CIFF in many ways. At CIFF we are among so many talented and creative people, influencers and international buyers and with CIFF being the largest fashion fair in Northern Europe, it is a great opportunity to reach out to an international audience and invite them into our carefully curated universe.
What are your expectations for the FW 2018-19 fair?
To have fun and to meet a lot of wonderful people - and hopefully to do a lot of business while we are there.
