The Autumn Winter 2021 collection is a tale in itself and though told silently, the message comes across strong. Within the muted color pallet and sheltering layers of fabric it is an inherent sense of thoughtfulness. The collection is developed with details in mind, emphasizing Mark Knely Domino Tan’s natural tendency to rationality, exploration and uniqueness. To quote architect Mies van der Rohe, "God is in the detail." And these are details that unveil themselves to the wearer of pieces by MKDT: the consideration of construction, the effort of choosing the exact right fabric, the re-invention of classic designs. All together this attention to detail and focus on the interplay between materiality and form creates a tactile collection, ment to be worn by people all ages. Mark Kenly Domino Tan wants to prove how each piece of clothing should hold up beautifully for years to come. The vision has always been about melding the utilitarian practicality of womens and menswear with the softening influence of innovative fabric- crinkled linen, double padded wool, heavy silk satin and herringbone tweed. The palette is natural: white, sand, light blue, grey, ivory, brown and black. The subtle prints and fabrics are meant to be combined and paired in curious ways. The clothes challenge you to dig for detail and excavate your own conclusions. Stripping things away, Mark Kenly Domino Tan presents a very pure silhouette, playing on defining surfaces and volumes, where textured mixes are assembled via a sophisticated, not-so-simple execution. Mindful of what’s going on in the world, Mark Kenly Domino Tan believe that we should make things that last and feel good- things that has the soothing effect of beauty.
