The fashion industry, like all industries, must evolve to meet the challenges we face due to global disruption and the climate crisis. Community and collaboration are becoming critical focus areas as a result. Achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is likely to cost the fashion industry more than $700 billion, and the investment that is required is so significant, it requires industry-wide coopetition.
But how can independent businesses take action to do good, and what are the best ways to work together to drive positive impact across the supply chain?
CIFF is delighted to welcome Lucinda Chambers and Molly Molly from Colville. Founded in 2018, British luxury brand Colville was instinctively positioned as an alternative to overproduction and seasonal obsolescence. The brand has incorporated an element of upcycled materials in its collection since launch. More recently, it launched an accessories line as a result of collaborations with a number of highly skilled craftspeople communities in Dakar, Colombia and Mexico.
Also joining us in Copenhagen: Maria Black, who founded her eponymous line in 2010. As a result of the global lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Black took the opportunity to study her supply chain and the practices of the global jewelry and mining industries, in an effort to understand the harm being done, and navigate a path to positive change. Today, her brand uses 70% recycled gold and 30% Impact gold, which focuses on preventing further harm while maintaining a lifeline for small-scale miners.
