Scandinavian fashion: It-brands such as Ganni, Cecilie Bahnsen and Toteme have reached a worldwide audience over the last few years – and rightly so. You should know these labels!
Scandinavian fashion brands are known for their minimalist design, high-quality materials and sustainable production, and at the same time come across as casual and unconventional. Labels such as Acne Studios, Ganni and Filippa K focus on clean lines and timeless elegance and are therefore both functional and stylish. These brands have a special appeal not only during Copenhagen Fashion Week, but throughout the year.
Their unique approach to combining fashion with ethical awareness makes them a must-have on our fashion radar. "For me, the essence of Scandi style is effortless chic combined with comfort and quality. We need to be able to ride the bike, play with our kids and wear the looks at work and still be willing to go out with them," says Sofie Dolva, director of the Copenhagen fashion fair CIFF about the DNA of Scandinavian style.
How does the coveted label Rotate interpret the Scandi style? "The basis is Scandinavian – clean lines, restrained colour palettes – but we always give it its own touch. For us, minimalism does not mean restraint, but intention," says Jeanette Madsen. "We play with silhouettes, textures and colours in a way that feels fresh and free. It is this contrast that makes Rotate what it is," adds Thora Valdimarsdottir. We show you 34 Scandinavian fashion brands that you should know about - directly to shop.
12 Scandinavian fashion brands that define Scandi style in a special way:
1. Ganni
It's hard not to meet someone wearing Ganni within five minutes in Copenhagen – that's how ubiquitous the cult brand's floral dresses and denim designs are. What makes Ganni so special for Copenhagen (even though they won't be showing a collection at Fashion Week again this season) is the effortless fusion of traditional Scandinavian simplicity with playful, modern elements. The collections are characterized by eye-catching patterns, bold colors and unexpected cuts that perfectly capture the urban, trend-conscious lifestyle of the city. Ganni is not just a brand, but a way of life that reflects the creative and dynamic atmosphere of Copenhagen.
2. Rotate
When they think of Scandinavian fashion, they think of minimalist fashion basics. This is only true to a limited extent. Because at the other end of the Scandi style spectrum is Rotate Birger Christensen. Founded by creative minds Jeanette Madsen and Thora Valdimars, Rotate stands out for its bold, modern style with a dash of retro chic. Rotate's designs are characterized by playful silhouettes, eye-catching patterns and an irresistible energy. The label has not only made a splash on the international catwalks, but has also gained a loyal fan base with its dynamic interpretation of Scandinavian fashion. Instead of everyday wear, this is about eye-catching party wear with dramatic 80s silhouettes and eye-catching fabrics. If you're looking for a purple sequin mini dress or silver vinyl pants, you've come to the right place.
3. Toteme
Brands like Ganni and Stine Goya show that the Scandinavian aesthetic is much more than just a monochrome cliché, as nowhere in the world is minimalist design implemented as well as in Scandinavia. The design team has a real understanding of a capsule wardrobe, and the pieces can all be styled together seamlessly.

Acne Studios needs no introduction, because this is probably the brand that put Scandinavian style on the fashion map after its founding in 1997. The Swedish label initially focused on raw denim, and while denim remains the centerpiece of the Stockholm atelier, the leather "Musubi" bags and biker jackets are just as iconic.
