What you missed from CIFF 2024

By Joshua Graham on 9 August 2024

Twice a year the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF) runs in tandem with Copenhagen Fashion Week to bring buyers and brands together to showcase emerging trends, sustainable innovations and visionary designs. This year’s event, held at the iconic Bella Center, attracted industry insiders, influencers, and fashion enthusiasts worldwide, all eager to witness the latest Scandinavian design and beyond. This year’s theme, ‘One Copenhagen’, saw CIFF expand its space by 25% with more than 1,200 brands and introduced a plethora of new activations as it navigates a less than accommodating consumer market. Here’s your rundown of the week.

Neudeutsch

This year the fair served as a platform for German design talent making waves across Europe. The groundbreaking showcase ‘NEUDEUTSCH’ saw an expert curation, by fashion insider Julian Daynov, of over 30 German brands across fashion, jewellery, interior design, and more. Among them were Haderlump and Avenir who recently presented their S/S 25 shows as part of Berlin Fashion Week. At CIFF, attendees had the opportunity to revisit the collections up close to get a taste of the talent shaping Germany’s fashion scene.

A Spotlight on Sustainability

True to Copenhagen’s reputation as a leader in sustainable fashion, this year’s CIFF placed a significant emphasis on eco-conscious brands and practices. From biodegradable textiles to zero-waste production methods, sustainability was more than a trend — it was the heart of the fair. Fashion and beauty brands a like showcased the latest in sustainble innovations that are sure to change consumer habits for the better. Notable mentions include Avenir whose collection featured innovative ways of reworking denim.

Looking Ahead

As the fashion world continues to evolve, CIFF remains a key event for those looking to stay ahead of the curve. With its focus on sustainability, innovation, and talent, CIFF not only reflects the current state of the industry but also shapes its future. Closing out the event was the Transformation Conference hosted by Scandinavian MIND magazine to discuss some of the fashion industry’s most pressing issues from greenwashing to how brands can utilise data to scale their business.

Experts included associate professor of design and sustainability at the Royal Danish Academy Else Skjold, Scandinavian MIND editor-in-chief Konrad Olsson, CIFF director Sofie Dolva and more. If this year’s event is any indication, the future of fashion is bright, bold, and undeniably Nordic.
